I’ve been showing teaser images of this project for a while now on Twitter, but I’m very pleased to announce that I’m now offering a range of carefully selected and lovingly restored vintage transit and railroad maps in my shop as an historical complement to my own modern transit map designs. Check back often, as I plan on adding more maps in the near future!
Shop Vintage Posters – from $22The maps have all been sourced from high resolution archives, including the Library of Congress, and are believed to be in the public domain. Restoration work that I have performed includes colour correction, discolouration and stain removal, deletion of tears and wrinkles, and in some instances, the seamless joining of two separate halves of a map. At the same time, I’ve attempted to preserve the “vintage” character of each map, as that’s a big part of what makes them so interesting and visually appealing. I like to call this approach “sympathetic restoration”.
Examples of the maps currently for sale are in the gallery below.
